Pfhew! Planted At Last

It’s been an unusually wet spring.  Rains come and before the ground can dry out enough to be worked, it rains again.  Our normal planting date is around May 15.  But this year that was out of the question.

So, here it was, a week later than we would have liked but the weather broke, the sun came out and we had a nice breeze for a few days just enough to dry the soil.  On May 23d, a barren day, we tilled the soil and then on May 24th, from daylight until dark, we worked very hard and finished our first round of plantings.

We put out our heirloom tomatoes, our sweet and hot peppers, our cucumbers, our squash, our onions, beans and corn and of course our beautiful sunflowers, tens of thousands of them.

We got all of our irrigation installed and as I put the tractor away the last of twilight faded from the sky.

Our season has officially begun, and of course this Saturday, May 28th, our market opens for the summer season with all the goodness of The Upper Texas Smokehouse!

Thank you Lord for providing for us what we need when we need it most.
